Only two rules

_DSC6509I use to have a lot of rules. In fact I use to belong to a hiking group (The Lizards) that had more rules than I had, like “Don’t bring food to the woods that bears will not eat,”… mostly referring to the freeze dried stuff that tastes like rabbit droppings. The Lizards had plenty of rules and I had lots of rules, but that was in the olden days.

After some reflection and even thought… why all the rules? Was life that complicated? And the answer was “Yes” and “No.” Life can be complicated, but the rules don’t have to be.

So here is my attempt at simplifying the whole mess… only two rules and four words:

#1, Be Nice, and #2, Be Happy.

Yes, that’s it. All the other “rules” can fit neatly into those two rules for life.

If you are nice and treat others “nicely,” life will be “nice.” If others treat you badly, smile… and it will keep you sane (and nice) and drive the malefactor nuts. If you are “nice” to everyone, you will attract other nice folks and your universe will be a more pleasant one.

As for “Be Happy,” that’s a “you” thing. If you decide to be happy, that is your choice. Your outlook on life will be a positive one and you will attract other happy people… that “birds of a feather” thing.

So simplify your rule set… and enjoy a sunny beach, a close friend, family get-together’s, and Be Nice, and Be Happy.
