I feel smart… A Way with Language live event
Ever watch a movie waiting for the “good part” and it never comes… another hour and a half of life wasted. Or even worse, feel like you needed to take a bath after watching some TV show about nasty people doing nasty things to other nasty individuals?
Well… last Saturday’s (5/17/2014) live event was the opposite of those useless and bath requiring episodes.
The live event, A Way with Language, was sponsored by Public Broadcasting with our local radio celebrities, Martha Barnette and Grant Barrett of the PBS radio program, A Way with Words. The event started with tasty treats on the patio, for the early arrivals, and then moved indoors to the auditorium at the new San Diego Central Library. And over the course of the next hour or so, I got smart about skyscrapers, and pajama clad slumber parties, and the different ways we learn languages within and from cultures.
I even learned that answering the phone, “It’s me,” is just fine, and that, “It is I,” may be grammatically correct, but is probably reserved for British royalty.
I felt smart and inspired, and walked out feeling a bit of hope for my fellow man. Maybe we weren’t the planet destroying parasites that were doomed to self-destruct in a haze of denial and greed. Maybe there were some smart and well intentioned humanoids still alive… and listening to Public Broadcasting.
Check out the photos of the event, and tune into PBS’ A Way with Words for more enlightenment… and you too can feel smart.
